The fight against charcoal burning in Kitui County is gaining momentum

FOUR more trucks were impounded overnight for flouting the charcoal trade ban in Kitui County.

The latest arrests took place on Tuesday night by a surveillance team led by Deputy Governor Dr Wathe Nzau.
Two Lorries were flagged down at Kakeani in Kitui West, one at Wikililye and another at Mutito in Kitui East. The three trucks are now being escorted by police to Kitui Police station for commencement of their prosecution.

This comes barely hours after a lorry driver was charged and fined Ksh.50,000 in Mutomo and over 140 bags of charcoal forfeited to County Government.

In Mwingi, a Probox driver was charged and fined Ksh.50,000 for ferrying Charcoal against the ban imposed on the trade, by Kitui County Governor Charity Ngilu and County top administration and Security Chiefs.
